Apples, Apples Everywhere!

 Hello all!
I have been having so much fun teaching our class!  Speaking of fun, recently you may have seen me with crazy hair, wearing silly outfits and my clothes on backwards. Teachers and staff have been doing this to support the FUNd run and to get students excited and talking to their families about this upcoming event on Friday.  I will send home your child's FUNd run shirt on Wednesday. Our class will run at 9:15 am. Please send in your fundraising envelope as soon as possible (even if you signed up online). Our class decided that our FUNd run team name is: Team Ice Cream, Our Mascot is: Olaf and our theme song is "In Summer" from the Frozen soundtrack.

For the next 2 weeks our class will be studying apples. We began our unit by reading facts about apples and then labeling apple parts in Writer's Workshop.  In addition, many of our center activities are also connected to apples. Students are sorting apples by their different attributes, making apple patterns and creating apple art.

Next week are parent-teacher conferences! I will email out and also send home a paper copy of your conference time and date this Wednesday. Our class started Lexia (Core 5) that is an individualized literacy computer program. I will be sending your child's log-in information this Friday in their folders so they can work on Lexia at home.

Kinder Fun!

This week many of our activities are connected to the classic children's book Brown bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? By Eric Carle and Bill Martin. Students are writing beginning sounds, words and labeling pictures about Brown bear.  They are engaging in centers that practice retelling and ordering when the different animals appear in the book. We are also identifying and practicing writing numbers.

In addition, We have been singing, learning poems and writing about colors. I loved seeing all the hard work and creativity that went into the color homework page! On Friday, we will experiment with primary colors to create secondary colors with paints.

Next week we will begin our Apple Study. For a couple of weeks, students will study and write about apple parts, learn different vocabulary words, i.e. tart, harvest, deciduous, etc. We also will be sorting, tasting and doing several math and art projects connected with apples. Then, we will make applesauce!

Yesterday, we had our first shelter in place tornado practice drill. Our class went into our large walk-in closet and waited patiently while classes were checked to make sure that all students and staff were secure in their designated space.  I was very impressed how calm and cooperative our class was!

I have sent out a Volunteer calendar. Please let me know if you would like to be added to it to volunteer this month.

This Saturday is the Miner's Day run! Please consider walking or running in this fun family event. Proceeds will benefit our school! I've attached the link below:

Welcome to our blog!

Hi all,
I'm starting a class blog that I will continually update throughout the year to inform you about class information and what your child is learning in Kindergarten. I'll continue to email imperative information, as you may not always have a chance to visit our blog.

Yesterday was a very exciting day, we had our first assembly in the gym! Eric and Angelyne, "The Amazing" deaf cattle dog came and gave a wonderful presentation on how determination and  perseverance can help students become more successful in school and in their daily lives.  Together, Eric and Angelyne showed us some of their fantastic tricks and students saw first hand, that with a lot of love and determination animals and people can accomplish great things.

Just a reminder, tomorrow is a full day of school. We also have library tomorrow. Please send in your child's library book, so they can check out another one.
